Alimak Hek Group - Industrial elevators for power plant efficiency

Alimak industrial elevators based on rack-and-pinion or traction technology provide overhaul, maintenance and inspection services for power plants all over the world. The rack-and-pinion elevators are designed to operate in demanding industrial environments, outdoors or indoors and need no shafts or elevator rooms. They can easily be fitted on new as well as existing structures. Alimak traction elevators are the convenient alternative giving superior ride comfort in applications where a shaft is installed.

Why an elevator?

Every power plant is striving towards:

  • Increasing plant output
  • Improving efficiency
  • Increasing availability
  • Reducing operating costs to a minimum

In a power plant, it is of paramount importance to identify potential sources of failure to provide preventive maintenance and - should an unplanned production stop occur - to be able to quickly respond to the failure. Installation of an elevator is often the least expensive way to decrease downtime. Alimak industrial elevators are reliable, efficient, durable and offer a low cost of ownership.

Elevators for the power industry

Regardless of the source of energy, whether coal-fired, gas-fired, combined cycle, refuse-fired, nuclear, hydroelectric or wind, Alimak elevators provide safe and easy access where required.

Alimak elevators are found on:

  • Absorbers
  • Accumulator tanks
  • Boilers
  • Chimneys
  • Coal handling facilities
  • Cooling towers
  • Heat recovery steam generators
  • Nuclear reactors
  • Precipitators
  • Selective catalytic reduction systems
  • Scrubbers
  • Silos
  • Solar towers
  • Suspension electricity pylons
  • Warehouses
  • Water dam shafts
  • Wind turbines

As well as the power industry, Alimak Hek offers elevators targeted at oil & gas onshore/offshore, ports, mining and infrastructure.

The Alimak product line of industrial elevators are manufactured at the company´s state-of-the-art production facility in Skellefteå, Sweden and designed to operate in tough industrial conditions.

Rack and pinion elevators

Alimak Hek was the first elevator manufacturer in the world to introduce the rack and pinion drive technology. It has an installed base of over 22,000 rack and pinion systems worldwide in a wide range of industrial locations during more than 65 years in the business.

The Alimak rack and pinion drive system offers a number of advantages that can be translated into substantial economic benefits.

Rack and pinion industrial elevators:

  • Are designed for demanding industrial environments.
  • Require no machine room as the elevator carries its own machinery.
  • Require no load bearing elevator shaft.
  • Can be installed inside or outside buildings, and also on curved or inclined surfaces.

The elevators can easily be retrofitted to existing structures and have a very narrow and streamlined profile, which is invaluable where space is at a premium.

A simple drive principle means easier maintenance and lower service costs and there is practically no restriction in lifting height.

Traction elevators

The Alimak traction elevator series are designed and built to perform in the world's harshest environments. The elevators will improve operational efficiency, give superior HSE performance and reduce maintenance costs in any industrial application. With surface treatment corrosion classification up to C5 and ingress protection rating up to IP65, the new elevators are made for the toughest environments on the planet.

Traction industrial elevators:

  • Rugged design, for tough environmental conditions
  • Wide range of car sizes and capacities
  • Ingress protection rating up to IP65
  • Surface treatment: corrosion classification up to C5
