Alaf switches from diesel to natural gas in Tanzania

15 May 2018

Alaf (previously Aluminium Africa), part of the Safal Group, has selected Clarke Energy to supply a natural gas fuelled captive power plant for its manufacturing facility in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The plant will employ two 2 MW 612 Jenbacher engines and will enable the facility to switch from diesel to gas.

The recent addition of new gas pipelines which take domestically-produced natural gas from the south of Tanzania up to Dar es Salaam means gas is available for industrial facilities to use for self-generation of electricity. Tanzania’s national electricity grid is notoriously unreliable and self- generation of power is advantageous for the delivery of reliable power for manufacturing.
