Caterpillar expands cogen offering

19 May 2000

Caterpillar has launched its new G3516B cogeneration system to Europe. The system has an overall efficiency of up to 90 per cent.

The standard package features a G3516B engine, a SR4B generator, a heat recovery system, electrical controls and a hydraulic interconnection to the end-user.

Each engine cylinder is equipped with a fully shielded ignition coil. The ignition voltage from each cylinder is measured for diagnostics and control. Performance is enhanced with high-efficiency turbochargers, an aerodynamic low-loss air/fuel intake system and a new piston design. Benefits of this include:

14 per cent higher power rating (1030 kWe to 1175 kWe).

5 per cent higher electrical efficiency (37.6 to 39.5 per cent).

fast, precise load response.

Consistent power quality at a wide range of voltages.
