Metso Automation has secured an order for two maxDNA distributed control systems to be installed in the Qian Bei power station under construction in Guizhou Province, China. The order was placed by Metso's Chinese partner, SAIC, which will carry out integration, configuration and commissioning of the systems. The 600 MW bituminous coal-fired plant, which comprises two 300 MW units, is being built by the Guizhou Electric Power Bureau. The station will have "W" type down-shot boilers made by the Shanghai Boiler Works, a licensee of ABB Combustion Engineering. The maxDNA systems will run coordinated boiler-turbine control software which uses a heat-release measurement concept to calculate the energy input to the boiler. This provides optimum throttle pressure control, Metso claims, especially on load ramps. The system for unit 1 will enter service at the end of 2002.
