F-class Cricket Valley under construction

Cricket Valley Energy Center, an 1100 MW combined cycle natural-gas-fired power plant in Dover, New York, employing GE F-class gas turbine technology, has achieved financial close and entered the construction phase, with commercial operation expected in 2020. It is being constructed under a turnkey EPC contract by Bechtel for a consortium of owners: Advanced Power, which was lead developer and is now lead construction and asset manager; JERA Co (half-owned by each of Chubu Electric Power Company and TEPCO Fuel & Power); TIAA Investments; Black-Rock Financial Management; Development Bank of Japan; and NongHyup Financial Group.

Advanced Power says it closed the $1.584 billion project financing in January 2017, triggering the start and of construction.

Cricket Valley Energy Center is strategically located adjacent to the Iroquois natural gas pipeline and will sell energy, capacity and ancillary services to the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) energy market with interconnection through Con Edison’s 345 kV transmission line. It will help offset potential power disruptions due to the retirement of the nearby Indian Point nuclear power facility.

Bechtel placed an EEP (engineered equipment package) order with GE that includes three 7F.05 gas turbines, three steam turbines, three heat recovery steam generators and additional equipment. GE Power Services has also signed a multi-year services agreement for continued maintenance, including three major inspections, of the facility’s power generation equipment.

In addition, GE says, through GE Capital’s Energy Financial Services, it served as a co- lead arranger and administrative agent to help secure senior-secured credit facilities for the project.

The GE F class fleet now consists of more than 1300 units installed worldwide with more than 72 million fired hours in service.
