Alstom has also won an order for a Powerformer-based generator from Japan. The unit is destined for the Katsurazawa power plant in the town of Hokkaido. The hydropower station was built in the 1950s. One unit at the plant is to be replaced with the high voltage generator. In addition to the generator, the contract includes line side and neutral side equipment, brushless excitation equipment and control and supervision equipment. Delivery is scheduled for 2003 and the contract value is put at $4 million. This unit will represent the fifth Powerformer-based generator to be delivered, Alstom said. The high voltage unit at Katsurazawa will be connected directly to a 66 kV substation on the grid.
