DIESEL & GAS ENGINE DEVELOPMENT

Metal detecting saves money

8 July 2004

The Amot MPD metal detector signals the presence of metal particles, chips or dust in lubricating fluids caused by bearing wear or other engine part problems. It helps prevent catastrophic failure andcostly repairs and thereby helps minimise downtime. The unit has a corrosion-resistant anodised aluminium body and no moving parts, and only requires minimal maintenance. Its "unique" grid sensing technology detects all conductive materials, including non-metallic particles, in non-conductive fluid lubrication systems.

The detector is a straightforward device easily installed in a side stream of the lubcricant oil on all kinds of reciprocating or rotating equipment equipment including gas or diesel engines and turbines. Used either with Amot's MPD controller, or an appropriate alternative controller, it can convert maintenance into a continuously predictive process rather than one that can only react to events. Temperature rating is -29 to +148 degC and up to 13.8 bar as standard. Electrical rating is 3.5 VA, 24V ac or dc. A stainless steel version is also available, for use in hazardous locations.
