MHPS steam turbine-generators for Singapore
28 August 2016Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has received an order for two steam turbines and generators for a large-scale waste-to-energy project being instigated by the Singapore National Environment Agency (NEA). The 120 MW class WtE generation facility, employing an incinerator of the “stoker” type, with the capacity to process 3600 tons of waste daily, is being delivered through Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Environmental & Chemical Engineering Co, Ltd (MHIEC).
The facility, which is scheduled to start up in the first half of 2019, will be built in Tuas, an industrial district in the mid-west of Singapore.
Construction and operation will be the responsibility of a special purpose company established jointly by MHI and the major local water processing and supply company Hyflux Ltd.
EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) will be carried out by HydroChem, a subsidiary of Hyflux. MHIEC will supply the incinerator and generation equipment together with MHI’s local Singaporean subsidiary Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Asia Pacific Pte Ltd.(MHI-AP) under sub-contract to HydroChem.
The MHI Group has been involved in three WtE plants in Singapore to date including the Tuas South Incineration Plant, which was completed in 2000 and, at 4320 tons per day, has one of the world’s largest processing capacities. MHI supplied the steam turbine generators for these plants.
