Siemens is currently fulfilling an order from plant owner Macquarie Infrastructure Corporation (MIC) for the installation of two more Industrial Trent 60 Wet Low Emission (WLE) gas turbine generators to supplement the eight already in operation at the Bayonne Energy Center (BEC), taking total installed capacity there to 640 MW.

Thanks to aero-derivative technology, the highly flexible BEC plant, which delivers power to NYC through a 6.5 mile long underwater cable, can produce full power from a standing start in less than ten minutes of receiving a request from the dispatcher, helping to ensure grid stability.

During the summer 2015 peak, BEC started the units over 1000 times while achieving a reliability rate of >99.76%.

The Industrial Trent 60 gas turbine packages are being assembled at Siemens’ (formerly Rolls-Royce’s) Mount Vernon, Ohio, facility.
