Upgrade saves cooling water

21 February 2004

Alfa-Laval has re-launched its ALF cooling system filter adapted for use with plate heat exchangers and tubular exchangers to enable users to deal more effectively with low grade water from natural sources. High grade coolant is becoming scarcer and more expensive, but low grade water, primarily used as a secondary cooling medium, contains impurities and solid matter that can corrode or clog water systems. The ALF is a pressure filter designed to be mounted directly on to the pipework at the heat exchanger inlet and can be mounted in more or less any orientation including at a 90 degree bend. It is suitable for connections ranging from 100 mm to 600 mm in size and within a flow range of 45 m3/h to 5000 m3/h. It incorporates an automatic flushing facility, with flushing and diverter valves regulated by a locally mounted plc and control panel, that can be used in either primary or backflushing modes.
