Valmet and Zibo Green Energy have signed a contract for delivery of an SRF (solid recovered fuel) fired CFB (circulating fluidised bed) boiler to a cogen plant in the city of Zibo, Shandong province, China. Installation is scheduled to begin in February 2017, with heat and power production scheduled to start by the end of 2017.

“This is Valmet’s first waste to energy boiler plant delivery to China. We have developed our waste to energy concept especially for this type of power plant. The solution will enable excellent efficiency through high steam parameters even when combusting solid recovered fuels. Utilising waste in energy production will enable a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared to fossil fuel powered plants,” says Kai Janhunen, vice president, heat and power generation at Valmet.

Valmet’s scope includes a CYMIC boiler island, from fuel silo to boiler outlet. The steam capacity of the new plant will be 108 MWt and the plant’s installed electrical capacity will be approximately 35 MW.

The green field boiler plant will use up to about 350 000 tons of SRF annually, with light fuel oil used for start-ups.

One advantage of CFB technology is that it is able to cope with the relatively high chlorine and alkaline content in waste derived fuel.
