$2 billion a year on power for Vietnam

Vietnam is planning to invest some $2 billion per year through to 2010 in order to develop 53 major new power plants.

According to industry minister Hoang Trung Hai in comments to the National Assembly, demand growth of up to 28% a year, requires massive investment.

The major power plants are expected to be both hydro and thermal and backed with both private and state investment.
