The firm building Indonesia's largest gas engine-based peaking power plant has placed an order with Wärtsilä for the supply of the main equipment for the project.
The 184 MW Arun power plant in northern Sumatra will play a key role in improving grid reliability and stability in the region and will use 19 Wärtsilä engines running on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Wärtsilä will supply its 34SG engines for the project, which is being built on a fast track basis for national utility PLN by construction firm PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk. Wärtsilä says that the contract is the second it has received this year in Indonesia, following an order for a 155 MW gas engine peaking power plant in Central Kalimantan.
