29 November 2016

It has been confirmed that at least 40 people have died after a platform at a power plant construction site in east China collapsed.

China’s news agency Xinhua has reported that a number of workers at the site of the Ganneng Fengcheng coal-fired power project remain trapped under rubble inside a cooling tower and that rescue efforts are continuing.

Five people are receiving medical treatment in hospital, Xinhua added.

The Ganneng Fengcheng power plant is a 2 x 1000 MW ultra-supercritical coal fired project located in Shishang village, Jiangxi Province. It is being developed by Jiangxi Energy Group and SDIC Power, and is due to start operating in 2018.
