500 MW solar power project launched in Uzbekistan

On 23 December in Tashkent, Uzbekistan’s ministry of Energy announced that in line with declared policy for ensuring electricity supply in Uzbekistan during 2020 and 2030, and simultaneously implementing a large-scale renewable energy strategy, a third solar photovoltaic PPP project, under the “Uzbek Solar” programme is planned for Q1 of 2021. The project, located in the Bukhara, Namangan and Khorazm regions, is part of the 1GW solar program mandate of the International Finance Corporation. 

The project is anticipated to consist of three lots, with a total capacity of 500 MW, to be tendered out for the private partners under the DFBOM model. One of the lots will also include a battery storage component.  

Alisher Sultanov, Uzbekistan’s minister of Energy commented: “Following the success of Uzbek Solar 1 and high interest in the Uzbek Solar 2 project, we are happy to announce that the start of this new project is planned for February 2021”.
