AES and EHN to develop NY wind

7 April 2005

In a joint venture with EHN, AES Corp is to develop wind projects in New York state, initially on advanced projects in Niagara and Clinton Counties. The venture is expected to develop more than 350 MW of new capacity in the state over the next few years.

AES, which recently completed its purchase of SeaWest, did not disclose the terms of the joint venture but expects wind energy in New York to present significant opportunities following the announced goal for a 25% renewable energy contribution to the state by 2013. New York is one of 18 states in the US that have passed, or have pending, legislation on renewable portfolio standards.
