NRG Energy and MidAmerican Renewables say that they have completed construction of Agua Caliente, the world's largest solar photovoltaic (PV) plant.
The 290 MW facility in Arizona, USA, is selling its output to Pacific Gas & Electric under a 25-year power purchase agreement. Its completion will "raise the bar" in terms of clean energy production and technology, said Tom Doyle, president of NRG Solar.
Agua Caliente was built on 2400 acres of land and received a $967 million loan guarantee from the US Department of Energy. It consists of 5 200 000 PV modules and took four years to build.
