Alberta and Idaho labs collaborating on energy alternatives

30 April 2008

Canada’s Alberta Research Council (ARC) is collaborating with the US Idaho National Laboratory (INL) to research energy options, providing scientific and engineering information to guide industry and policy-makers on energy technology alternatives.

The memorandum of understanding covers a series of energy and environmental research and development initiatives, including evaluating current and future nuclear energy technology within the context of Alberta’s specific conditions.

INL and ARC will develop an advisory report covering the potential introduction of nuclear energy into Alberta, for both electrical generation and also in relation to possible interaction in oil sands development.

It will pay specific attention to environmental impact, industrial integration and cost-effectiveness.
