Alstom steam generator for oxyfuel trial

13 June 2006

The world’s first oxygen-fired demonstration plant will enable carbon capture when it comes on stream during 2008.

The 30 MW plant will use an Alstom steam turbine in a contract worth around €17 million.

The news comes as Alstom has signed an exclusive license agreement for carbon capture technology with EIG Inc of the US. The global licence agreement of the technology, based on chilled ammonia, covers its development and commercialisation by Alstom’s Environmental Controls Systems business.

The process allows low energy desorbtion of the CO2 in a very pure concentration at pressure. Commercial terms were not disclosed.
