Alstom is to supply two GT13E2 gas turbines and long-term services for the Kelar combined-cycle power plant in northern Chile following contract awards worth in excess of €100 million from mining firm BHP Billiton.

The 517 MW Kelar project is being implemented by Samsung Engineering under an EPC contract and is expected to be commissioned in 2016. The units will supply the power needs of the mining activity of Minera Escondida and its associated activities.

Alstom says the gas turbines will be equipped its new Advanced EnVironmental (AEV) burner which employs a new continuous fuel variation concept as the basis for more flexible and reliable operations.
