Alstom wins Brazil wind contract

10 July 2014

Tractebel Energia Brasil has selected Alstom's ECO 122 wind turbine model for the Trairí II project in Ceará state, Brazil.

Under a contract worth €120 million, Alstom will supply 36 of the 2.7 MW turbines to the project, which is scheduled for commissioning in mid-2016. The French firm will also be in charge of the operation and maintenance of the wind farm for ten years.

Alstom's wind turbines will feature 119 m concrete towers specifically designed for ECO 122, delivered in consortium with Freyssinet. This new tower will be made of precast concrete sections to be erected using a craneless installation method based on proven hydraulic lifting techniques used in civil engineering.

The ECO 122 wind turbine has one of the largest rotor diameters within the 2-3 MW onshore turbine market segment, enabling it to capture energy in low wind sites. "The Trairí II project will be the first to use our new 119 m towers that allow us to better harness wind resources regardless of wind characteristics," said Yves Rannou, Senior Vice President of Alstom Wind.
