Alstom wins Taishan turbine island contract

11 August 2008

The China Guang Dong Nuclear Power Company (CGNPC) has awarded Alstom a EUR200 million contract to supply the complete turbine island for the Taishan nuclear power plant, China’s first EPR plant.

Alstom won the contract as part of a consortium comprising two subsidiaries of CGNPC – China Nuclear Power Engineering Co. Ltd. and China Nuclear Power Design Co. Ltd. The order follows a EUR300 million order booked by Alstom and two Chinese partners in early 2008 for the supply of two 1750 MW Arabelle turbine generator packages for the EPR plant.

French nuclear engineering company Areva is building the two-unit Taishan plant in Taishan City in southern Guangdong Province. It signed an EUR8 billion contract for the project in November 2007.

In its latest contract, Alstom will supply in-house designed components as well as the basic engineering of the complete turbine island and pumping station, while its local engineering office will support the on-shore portion of the design and procurement.
