AMEC teams with Exelon to explore new energy market opportunities

13 March 2014

International engineering and project management company AMEC is teaming up with Exelon Nuclear Partners, a division of US utility Exelon, to explore opportunities in new markets across the international energy sector, including in the Middle East and mainland Europe.

The strategic partnership will focus on both the nuclear new-build and existing reactor marketplaces, providing an engineering, consultancy, project management and operations support service, AMEC says.

The two companies will also explore opportunities in the renewable energy market, including wind and solar power, together with transmission and distribution. AMEC said that 'a number of possible projects' have already been identified.

"This new partnership will combine AMEC's wide ranging nuclear skills, such as licensing, engineering consultancy and permitting expertise, with Exelon's unrivalled operational experience," commented Clive White, president of AMEC's Clean Energy Europe business.

"The two companies will also explore opportunities in the renewable energy market...together with transmission and distribution."

Exelon Generation operates 23 reactors at 14 stations in the United States. Its generation business also comprises fossil, and renewable electric generating facilities, and also wholesale energy marketing and competitive retail supply operations. Through Exelon Nuclear Partners the company offers nuclear operating services, performance improvement services (from outage duration optimization to training, IT and fuel procurement support) as well new nuclear development services (workforce development, start-up assistance and the Exelon Nuclear Management Model)

"The global opportunities across the sector, from new build through to decommissioning and waste management, are huge and we are confident that this partnership between two of the world's leading nuclear organisations will enable us to provide excellent value to our nuclear customers," said Amir Shahkarami, CEO of Exelon Nuclear Partners.
