American Superconductor Corp has won a contract from Windtec Engineering for the supply of power electronic converters for a new 1.5 MW wind turbine control system.

AMSC's PowerModulen PM1000 power electronic converters manage and stabilise output from a wind turbine to supply steady power to the grid over a broad range of fluctuating wind conditions. Based in Klagenfurt, Austria, Windtec is a supplier of large wind turbine components and system technology.
