Ampla to sell stake in 10 small hydro plants

20 September 2005

A total of 63 MW of small hydro capacity, comprising 10 separate units, are to be sold by Brazilian electricity distributor Ampla, formerly known as Companhia de Electricidade de Rio de Janeiro (CERJ). The sale is expected to complete by the end of October 2005, although the names of the plants have not yet been revealed.

The sale follows a regulatory decision from Aneel, which forced energy firms to separate their distribution and transmission activities.

Ampla, the second largest distributor in the state, is owned by Spanish Endesa.
