Anti-trust proceedings against EdF and Electrabel

31 July 2007

The European Commission believes that the alleged infringements concern contracts concluded by Electrabel and EdF in their respective home markets, Belgium and France, where the companies may have introduced long-term exclusive purchase obligations in their supply contracts with industrial consumers. It is suspected these contracts prevent customer switching, thereby significantly foreclosing the markets concerned.

While the Commission says the proceedings do not imply that it has conclusive proof of an infringement it will conduct an in-depth investigation as a “matter of priority.”
