Australian wave plant set for installation

26 May 2005

The first commercial wave generation unit in Australia is set to be installed over the next few weeks as it is towed to its final position off Port Kembla's eastern breakwater in New South Wales.

The plant will be connected to the local power grid by an 11kV cable and is expected to produce at least 500 MWh of energy per annum which will be purchased by local power utility Integral Energy.

Developers Energetech use parabolic wave reflector technology.
