The modernisation of the automation, field devices and electrification at the Lielahti power plant in Finland will extend its life by 20 years, according to owner Tempereen Energiantuotanto Oy.
The utility has signed a €4 million contract with Metso to update the gas-fired cogeneration plant, which was brought on-line in 1988 and which supplies electricity and district heat to the Tampere area.
The project will be completed by late 2011.
“In the future, one operator will be able to control and monitor the operation of the Lielahti power plant as well as the production and distribution of district heat in Tampere, which is a city of over 200,000 inhabitants. Also, it will be easier to find the causes of disturbances,” says Sales Director Heikki Mylläri of Metso.
Metso's delivery scope includes the removal of the old automation system and installation of a new-generation automation system with integrated steam turbine controls. The company will also provide the power plant with round-the-clock upkeep services.
