Ringhals AG has shut down its 600 MWe Barsebäck 2 reactor in southern Sweden as part of the country’s political decision to phase out nuclear power.
The plant closed at midnight on 31 May after 30 years of operation.
Compensation negotiations for the owners of the plant are still underway, though the government has declared it intention to reach a compensation agreement with the utilities.
Meanwhile, the decommissioning has been celebrated by residents of Copenhagen, only around 20 km across a narrow waterway from the plant in nuclear free Denmark.
