BHI places supercritical order for Buk-Pyeong

18 November 2012

Foster Wheeler has been awarded its first contract for a supercritical pulverised coal fired steam generator in South Korea. BHI Co. Ltd has placed an order for design collaboration on two supercritical boilers for the Buk-Pyeong power plant.

BHI is Foster Wheeler’s licensee for utility pulverised coal technology in the region and is supplying the two 595 MWe supercritical boilers to the project, which is being developed by STX Electric Power Co. (STEX).

Foster Wheeler’s boiler design couples the company’s established wall-fired PC steam generator with advanced Benson vertical-tube (BVT) supercritical steam technology. The company has been given full notice to proceed with the contract.

Commercial operation of the new steam generator is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2015 for the first unit and second quarter of 2016 for the second unit.

“While the benefits of Foster Wheeler’s advanced supercritical PC technology have already been demonstrated in the utility market, this is our first such contract in the South Korean market,” said Byron Roth, CEO of Foster Wheeler North America Corp. “The combination of our design package and BHI’s equipment will deliver state of the art steam generator efficiency and environmental performance.”
