Brazilian government consents 482 MW wind farm

26 August 2016

Brazil’s Institute of the Environment (Ibama) has awarded planning consent to a 482 MW wind farm in Rio Grande do Sul state.

The 241-turbine Coxilha Negra wind farm is being developed by Brazilian utility Eletrosul and is one of the largest planned for the country. It will occupy an area of 12 641 hectares near the Brazil-Uruguay border.

Ibama said that the project will compete for a contract in an energy auction to be held in December this year.
