Browns Ferry nuclear restart

27 May 2007

TVA installed modern digital instrumentation and controls, modern power supplies, and replaced 300 km of electrical cable in the restart.

TVA shut down all three Browns Ferry reactors in 1985 over operational concerns and units 2 and 3 were returned to service in 1991 and 1995, respectively.

The 1,155 MW unit is located on Wheeler Reservoir in Athens and is the first nuclear reactor to come into service since 1996.

Bechtel Power provided engineering and technical services for the restart project
