According to Mayanmar state media, the agreement to build the project was signed by China’s Farsighted Investment Group and Gold Water Resources Co.

The 2,400 MW Upper Thanlwin plant will be located in northern Shan State, about 700 km north of Yangon.

One of several similar projects planned on the Thanlwin, earlier this month, construction began on the 7,110 MW Ta Sang hydro plant being built by a joint venture between the Burmese government and Thai power producer MDX Group.
