Greenpeace, Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) have published a report describing how wind energy could provide 12% of world energy needs by 2020.
"Wind energy, a sector which has experienced rapid development throughout the world, has an immense role to play in the future of energy supply and in the fight against climate change. For this reason, the G8 countries must encourage and support the development of wind energy throughout the world", says Sven Teske of Greenpeace International.
A commitment to promote the development of wind by the world’s 13 leading countries (Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the United States, France, India, Italy, Japan, the Philippines, Poland, Turkey and the United Kingdom would be required to reach the notional 12% target.
