Canada's Melancthon Grey

25 January 2005

Canadian Hydro Developers are developing the 67.5 MW Melancthon Grey Wind Project in Canada’s Ontario. Located near Shelburne, 70 km northwest of Toronto, Melancthon Grey will use 45 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines. Melancthon Grey is expected to generate 180 GWh of electricity annually, which will be sold to the Ontario Electricity Finance Corp. Groundbreaking for the project is expected to occur in spring, with commercial operation expected by late March, 2006.

The Canadian wind industry recently received a boost when the government increased its 1 GW Wind Power Production Incentive to 4 GW, allowing qualifying projects to receive C$10/MWh (euro 6.2/MWh).
