Cat takeover of MWM agreed by EC

20 October 2011

On 19 October the European Commission agreed to the sale of Germany-based distributed power supplier MWM to Caterpillar.

MWM's official statement read “The European Commission has approved the sale of MWM from 3i to Caterpillar. MWM welcomes this approval, as its integration into the Caterpillar family is a very positive step for the company’s future development ... the product portfolios of both companies complement one another very well without any substantial overlaps. We strongly believe that the next step in the company’s development will lead to more customer options for sustainable power generation solutions. Following the clearance by the European Commission - as the last major regulatory requirement - the transaction is expected to be closed before the end of this year.”

MWM is based in Mannheim, and is a leading provider of complete plants for decentralised power supply using gas and diesel engines. It specialises in cogeneration and trigeneration solutions and has 1250 employees around the globe.
