Centrica appeals over LNG plan

15 March 2007

The partners are challenging a Castlepoint Borough Council decision which stated that “the council found that the consortium had not provided sufficient evidence that the scheme was sufficiently ‘in the national interest’ to outweigh concerns that the new plant would have an adverse impact on the local environment.”

The station, capable of meeting around 5% of the UK's gas demand from 2010, would be a reinstatement of the world's first LNG import terminal built on the site in the 1950s, in 1990 it was turned into an LPG import terminal run by Calor Gas.
