Chile is to build almost 700 MW of solar power capacity after the country's Environmental Assessment Service (Servicio de Evaluación) approved the development.
Renewable energy developer Alen Walung Energy proposed the 698 MW South Campos Sol project, which will require $1.6 billio in investment.
The project will be built on over 800 hectares of land in the Atacama region of Chile and will be connected to the Central Interconnected System (SIC) grid in two stages. It will be built by a number of companies as 11 sub-projects.
The first stage of the project will see up to 300 MW constructed, with the remaining capacity built in phase two.
