China-Kazakh JV plans to develop coal-fired plant

Kazakhstan and China are planning the joint development of a coal-fired power plant in Pavlodar in eastern Kazakhstan at an estimated project cost of $4 billion.

Detailed talks are still under way but the plant is expected to run on coal from the open-cast mine at Ekibastuz.
