China's CCS capability to be assessed by World Bank

18 November 2012

USA-based engineering firm Foster Wheeler has been awarded a contract to provide consulting services in the CCS field in China as part of the World Bank’s CCS Trust Fund. It is part of a World Bank exercise designed to assess and strengthen China’s carbon capture and storage (CCS) capability.

Foster Wheeler says that its main objective under the contract will be to strengthen the CCS expertise in China Power Investment Corporation (CPIC), one of China’s largest power producers, and of relevant government institutions. Its work is scheduled for completion in mid-2013.

The CCS Trust Fund is financing a World Bank-led analytical and advisory assistance programme in China to build the country’s understanding of and capacity for CCS. The Trust Fund was set up in 2009 by the World Bank with financial assistance from the Global CCS Institute and the Norwegian Government.
