CHINESE TO BUILD GOMAL

The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority has signed an engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Gomal Dam with CWHEC-HPE, a joint venture involving two Chinese companies. The project, which was first mooted in the 1880s by the British, will have a dam 133 m in height and 150 m long. The scheme will provide power and water for irrigation and is being supported with $50 million from Abu Dhabi and $40 million from Saudi Arabia.
