Contracts and tenders: Siemens wins orders in Africa, India and the Middle East

Siemens’ Power Generation unit has won a series of orders worth around euro 850 million. A turnkey contract with the Algerian state-owned utility, Sonelgaz, will see the group work with French firm Saipem on the development of a 500 MW chiefly gas-fired power plant located in Berrouaghia, around 130 km south of Algiers. Siemens is to supply two SGT5-4000F (formerly called V94.3A) gas turbines, two generators and the associated electrical and instrumentation and control systems. Commercial operation is scheduled for late 2006.

The group will also build the Geregu plant, located in Ajaokuta, around 200 km south

of Nigeria’s capital Abuja, for the National Electric Power Authority

The 414 MW gas-fired plant will be consist of three SGT5-2000E (formerly called V94.2) gas turbines with commercial operation due in late 2006.

In addition, Siemens is to supply two SGT5-4000F gas turbines (formerly called V94.3A) and auxiliary systems for the New Talkha power plant, about 150 km north of Cairo, on behalf of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company and the East Delta Electricity Production Company. Commercial operation is scheduled for summer 2006.

Siemens also will supply two SGT5-2000E gas turbines (formerly called V94.2) for the Konaseema combined cycle power plant in the Indian state of Andra

Pradesh. This 460 MW gas-fired power plant is scheduled for commercial

operation in 2006.

Finally, the group has won a contract for the Sohar project in Oman about

250 km north of Muscat on the Gulf of Oman. Three SGT5-2000E gas turbines and generators, as well as the associated electrical systems and instrumentation and control systems are to be supplied by the German engineering group for project developers Suez-Tractebel.
