COTTAM DESULPHURISATION

Cottam Power Ltd had received approval for its proposal to fit flue gas desulphurisation equipment to its 2000 MW coal-fired generating station at Cottam, Nottinghamshire. The desulphurisation plant will remove 90 per cent of the sulphur dioxide emissions from the station.

A by-product of the emission control, gypsum, will be sodl for utilisation by the building industry. Retro-fitting of the equipment will extend the life of the plant by about fifteen years.
