Southern California Edison’s (SCE) will no proceed with building segment one of the so-called Tehachapi renewable transmission project, an 11 phase development that will coincide with the development of independently owned wind farms. The first segment includes the construction of a 41km, 500-kV line between SCE’s Antelope substation in Lancaster with its Pardee substation in Santa Clarita. The new line is expected to be operational in early 2009.
The CPUC decision approves the first of three segments and a decision on segments two and three is expected later this month. SCE plans file applications for the remaining segments in June.
Last December, SCE signed a 1,500 MW wind contract, the largest in US history, with Alta Windpower that relies on development of the full Tehachapi project.
