Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction and GE say that they will be better placed to serve the market for nuclear and fossil steam turbines and generators after signing a long-term agreement.
The two companies have been collaborating in nuclear and fossil steam turbine and generator projects around the world since 1976. The initial focus of the new agreement will be the development of a large-output steam turbine-generator for the next-generation nuclear plants in South Korea.
“The agreement helps position GE and Doosan better to serve the industry in producing lower emission power plants, both nuclear and ultra super critical fossil,” said Paul Browning, vice president of thermal products for GE Power & Water.
GE and Doosan's existing collaboration has resulted in more than 19 GW of fossil and 14 GW of nuclear installed capacity in South Korea. Most recently, they have designed and are producing what will be the largest output, 1455 MW, nuclear steam turbine and generator in a 60 Hz application.
They also have collaborated on ultra-supercritical large fossil designs.
