A new draft law covering subsidised tariffs for wind generation currently being discussed in the French parliament has been criticised by the European Renewable Energies Federation (EREF).
The legislation, which regulates which wind developments will be eligible for preferential power tariffs, only allows installations with a capacity up to 300 kW and between 30 MW and 50 MW to qualify. By excluding all but the largest and smallest developments, EREF claims, the law is tantamount to a direct attack on all producers not affiliated with state-owned EdF, given that producers would not be allowed to pool together in order to reach the thresholds.
Should the law come to pass as it stands some €6 billion will be lost to turbine producers and planning companies in France and other European countries, says the EREF.
