E.on and IP to try again

5 February 2002

E.on and International Power may renew their joint bid for CEZ electricity assets in the Czech republic following the rejection of their first offer in December. In January the Czech government cancelled the tender for its 67.6 stake in CEZ, the country's biggest generator, and stakes in six distribution companies after the leading bid, that of Electricite de France and Iberdrola, failed to meet its minimum price of 200 billion koruna ($5.5 billion). Now the way is open for a series of new bids in the sale of what is regarded as the last important unsold company in central Europe.
