The German energy firm E.On has commissioned its two 400 MW units at the Surgutskaya GRES-2 power station in western Siberia and says that its investment in the country illustrates its commitment to its long term plans there. The two new combined cycle gas turbine units will make an important contribution to the modernisation of Russia’s power system, says E.On.

The new units use the most advanced technology in Russia today, judgin by thermal efficiency. The efficiency of each 400 MW unit is 55.9 per cent, which is more than one-third higher than the average efficiency of power units used in the Russian power industry.

“The commissioning of two new power units constructed using the most advanced technologies shows that we are committed to completely fulfilling our obligations on time – and to further developing our long-term relations with Russia,” said Dr. Bernhard Reutersberg, member of the E.ON AG Board of Management. “It is our contribution to the modernisation of the Russian energy sector.”

E.On’s investments in Russia’s power industry have so far resulted in the commissioning of 2400 MW of capacity. The company is the largest foreign investor in the Russian power market. E.On bought Russian power generator OGK-4 in 2007.
