E.On places Rødsand order

13 October 2008

E.On has placed an order with Siemens Energy for the supply of turbines for one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world, Rødsand II.

The 207 MW wind farm is located south of the Danish island of Lolland in the Baltic Sea and will feature 90 turbines. The order includes a two-year service contract and is worth around EUR275 million.

Rødsand II will be located 3 km to the west of the existing Rødsand I offshore wind farm, which was connected to the power grid in 2003 and consists of 72 Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbines. Siemens will install the 2.3 MW units for Rødsand II in 2010.

Siemens says that the contract confirms its position as the world’s leading supplier of offshore wind turbines. It recently announced a major framework agreement with E.On for the supply of 500 wind turbines for onshore projects in Europe and the USA.

E.On is planning to replicate the Rødsand I model for the construction of Rødsand II. Rødsand I has an installed capacity of 165.6 MW and is jointly operated by E.On and Dong Energy.
