EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) has won a long term power purchase agreement (PPA) for 117 MW of wind power capacity in Brazil's latest energy auction.
EDF EN will set up the project in the Brazilian state of Bahia, where it is developing a portfolio of wind power projects in partnership with Sowitec. The firm said that the 20-year contract was "another step forward in its development in Brazil".
EDF EN will start building the new wind farm in 2017, with commercial operations scheduled for the end of 2018. It will form part of the second tranche of the Ventos de Bahia wind energy project cluster, which has a potential capacity of up to 800 MW.
EDF EN entered the Brazilian market in February 2015 with the acquisition of 80 per cent of the Ventos de Bahia cluster, including an energy supply contract for 66 MW of wind power projects.
